To Be or NOT To Be

To be Vegan, or not to be. To be Vegetarian, or not to be. To be a Mostly-something-else kind of eater, or not to be. To be a Raw Foodist, or not to be. These questions seem to have plagued my thoughts all day, everyday, for the past month or so. I have just spent the last 6 hours, researching fruits, vegetables, herbs, plants, and hunting down the definition for words I’ve never heard of. I have also pressed pause on my Wii remote way too many times to count, while watching “Vegucated”, “The Beautiful Truth”, and “Food Matters” on Netflix. Highly informative, well 2 out of the 3, I should say. I went in thinking they would help me make up my mind, but, almost the opposite occurred. “Vegucated” was quite boring and did little to sway my opinion. It felt more like a very long PETA ad, more than it did to inform me of why I need to become Vegan. “The Beautiful Truth” took me to the edge of where I might jump off into the great Vegan beyond, however, watching a guy bite into a burger while watching “Food Matters”, reminded me of how much I love Ribs and Burgers. Sigh. What a dilemma. In all of my hours of research, I have come to the conclusion that I am about 85% on board to becoming at least Vegetarian. Who knows, maybe I will wake up tomorrow and have a new attitude about it all. One thing is for sure, I am at least learning more than I ever thought possible about what I don’t want to ruin my life. The new recipes aren’t too bad either. Suffice it to say, the saga continues…

I enjoyed Quinoa for the first time as a breakfast food this morning. Love, love, love. Well, except for the few times that I bit down on dirt or grit or whatever it was. I rinsed several times as advised by many a recipe, but to no avail. Ah, but it shall not deter me from enjoying the little morsels that pop in my mouth like fish roe. I can’t wait to come up with a new blend later this week.

Drizzling Raw Black Sage Honey

Topped with Almonds

This recipe can be adapted to whatever fruit/berries and/or nuts you prefer.

You will need:

1 c Quinoa

1.5 c water

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

Add all ingredients to a saucepan. Bring to a boil, covered. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered for 15-20 minutes or until water is absorbed.

Add toppings of your choice. I chose frozen blueberries (slightly thawed ~ they thaw quickly once stirred into the hot Quinoa.), Honey and Slivered Almonds.

I must say that I had this for breakfast around 10:30 and I noticed around 5:00 that I hadn’t eaten another meal and I still wasn’t hungry. Hey, works for me. I know, it’s better to eat several small meals, or whatever the advice of the day is.. But, I was doing research and I wasn’t hungry.

Enjoy.

I am me. I was born into a world of chaos. I’ve conquered my share of uncertainty. I’ve spent years quieting my inner champion. Settling into a life I was told to love. Dismissing the art within. I love the idea of love. I long for peace in a world of sorrow. I cherish deep, meaningful conversations, but often find them illusive. My hope, is that you will find your voice in a sea of background vocals. Be you. Be free. This space is designed for those of you who often feel lonely, lost, mischaracterized, and grossly misunderstood. I hope you find your place in this world. Love and Light
